This evening I was able to photograph a a few of our feathered friends from in my backyard. Every year we have a return of the cliff swallows to a nest they built on our gutter. This time I was able to not only see the parent birds but the growing baby bird within.
Also we had a lot of ruby-throated hummingbirds fluttering around and I was able to get some nice images of them perched and one taking flight.
I decided to paint a portrait of our long-haired Chihuahua named Sassy that passed away a few months ago. We have a new Chihuahua-mix puppy named Sydney that now runs around our home.
I decided to paint something that incorporated a mermaid, pirate lore, and the undersea world. I ended up creating this scene with a tearful mermaid at the site of a shipwreck. I included some pirate mythology into the scene including the hourglass (which symbolizes the time of death).

There was an original influence for this painting from a historic photo. I couldn’t see details clearly enough to continue using it as the basis for the painting so I decided to just let my imagination take over. I combined influences from Samoa (the fan), Micronesia, Fiji, Hawaii, and Bali, which is why I named it ‘Somewhere in the Pacific’. She is holding a wicker fan.
I decided to do something a bit different and decided that a lightning storm sky would bring an added dimension to the painting. I had to use multiple photos to piece together the painting from Yaki Point. There are trails visible in the lower left corner.
We’ve been to Grand Canyon several times over the years and sometime I’m going to hike all the way to the river and also to Havasu Falls. Both are on the bucket list.

I painted this flask with Costa Rican wildlife. The depicted animals include a three-toed sloth, red-eyed tree frog, blue jeans frog, basilisk lizard, keel-billed toucan, coatimundi, howler monkey, capuchin monkey, and tiger heron.
